Sandpoint nominated in Rand McNally's Best Small Town Contest | Community Spirit
Sandpoint locals know that their town is one of the best small towns in the country, but now it's time to make sure that rest of the nation knows it too. Once again, Sandpoint is nominated in Rand McNally's Best Small Contest, but it will take a tidal wave of votes to get Sandpoint in one of the top spots.
Rand McNally started the Best Small Town Contest in 2011, and that year Sandpoint won the Most Beautiful category. This year, voters can nominate their town in one of six categories: most beautiful, most fun, most patriotic, best food, best for geocaching and friendliest.
Online voting started on July 1st , and so far Sandpoint only has a total of 94 across the six categories. That's miles behind the leader, Punta Gorda, Florida, which has a total of 5, 367 votes. Towns can only claim the title in one category. Voting doesn't end until September 3rd, so there is still time for Sandpoint to catch up and reclaim their title of Most Beautiful, or to snag a win in another category.
Finalists will be announce in mid-September and at that point those towns will need to go all out to impress the judges. Everything from votes to social media posts will be considered by the judges panel as they make the final selections. The winning towns will be announced on October 7th and will receive a feature in the 2015 Rand McNally Road Atlas and a free custom iPhone app for their town.
