Every June, I dust off my cowboy boots, pair it with a polka dot sundress and hightail it to The Farm Chicks Antiques Show at the Spokane County Fairgrounds. For self proclaimed "junkers" the show is what Disneyland is to a 5 year old. Really, it's THAT exciting. Trust me.

In this crowd, a slight obsession for all things vintage and fabulous instantly bonds women from across the country. The show features refurbished antique furniture, beautiful, handcrafted home accessories and decor. The search for that perfect vintage piece is all part of the experience.

What started out in a barn in 2002 is now one of the largest show of its kind in the country. Serena Thompson, who lives on Green Bluff, is the entrepreneur responsible for creating the funky and oh. so. fabulous. weekend event.

Thompson has also penned several cookbooks, is a contributing editor for Country Living Magazine, a wife and mom to four boys. Whew! She pretty much rocks.

And now she's getting ready to launch her latest venture, a website called My Favorite Find. I recently had the opportunity to ask Thompson a few questions about her latest project.

AB: Tell me about your latest project My Favorite Find. How did you come up with the idea?

ST: I'd been receiving a lot of mail from all over the world, from readers asking how they could find great events similar to mine or shoppes in their area and from others who were hosting these events and running these shoppes, wondering how they could promote them. I soon realized there wasn't anything for them out there and decided that I'd just create it myself. And My Favorite Find was born.

My Favorite Find is like a virtual show-and-tell. You can search for, find, and share shoppes and events like antiques shows, yard sales, auctions, and more anywhere in the world and then show-and-tell your finds. I'm really proud of the site and the exposure it will create for small business owners and event producers from the backyard sales to the flea markets of the world. And I think it's unique as a businesswoman to have created this site in a world of big sites dominated by men. That's a big deal to me. Etsy, Pinterest, Craigslist, Amazon, Google, Facebook - all created by men. I'd like to see My Favorite Find join their ranks. What can I say? Everything I've done in business has started with a big dream. This is no exception.

AB: How can people participate in your new project?

ST: Anyone can join in, anywhere in the world. The site will go live on Monday, March 19th. To sign up, all you need to do is submit your email address on the site.

AB: Explain how you've seen your industry change over the past couple years. What's the demand like for handmade crafts, refurbished furniture, home accessories and vintage finds?

ST: When I started The Farm Chicks in 2002, nothing like it existed anywhere on the west coast and certainly very few similar shows in the world. There is definitely a trend in the world of antiques and vintage and so many shows out there now. I hear from women all the time who have been inspired by my show and have started their own. Some big. Some small. I love that. And now, I can help them find an audience.

AB: What advice would you give to mom's out there who want to start their own business?

ST: Take your time and create a business that's based on what you love and feel strongly about. Focus on quality and stay true to your vision. If you're good at what you do, the business will grow and be successful.

After you've checked out the new site, save up your cash and get ready for The Farm Chicks Antiques Show, June 2nd and 3rd.
