Huckleberry Festival | Arts & Culture
In college, my roommate's mother was aghast that I and two of our other friends had never had huckleberries. She said "How could you girls not have had huckleberries? You grew up at the foothills of the Cascades".
I love that quote. It's ten years later and I still remember it. We all grew up in Western Washington, which apparently meant to this Missouri mother that we should have all been raised on huckleberries.
With that said, make sure you don't disappoint any of your friend's mothers and get out and enjoy the Northwest berry. Your best chance: this weekend's Huckleberry Festival at Schweitzer. It's Sunday, August 7th from 8am to 4pm.
Here's what Schweitzer says to expect:
This day-long event kicks off at 8am with a delicious huckleberry pancake breakfast. Plenty more activities will be available including; arts and crafts, vendors with huckleberry treats, live music by the Huckleberry Jam Band, Jimbo the Clown, a pie eating contest and t-shirt tie dying.
Sounds like fun. I'll have to shoot my old college roommates an e-mail to see if they're in to get in on the event. Our friend's mother will be so proud.
