Military units across the Pacific Northwest have canceled or postponed training scheduled for this weekend as a result of the government shutdown in Washington, D.C.
The cancellation impacts thousands of Guardsmen and Reservists serving in Washington and Idaho.
The Washington Military Department confirmed Wednesday morning that both the Washington Army National Guard and Air National Guard has canceled training for all units for the weekend of Oct. 5-6.
The cancellation of the upcoming drill weekend impacts approximately 8,000 Guardsmen across the state.
The Washington Military Department reports that the canceled drills will be made up at a later date.
Idaho National Guard commander Maj. Gen. Gary Sayler announced Wednesday morning the postponement of monthly training for Idaho Air and Army Guard members.
?Due to the uncertainty caused by the current government shutdown, we have no choice but to postpone this important monthly training,? Seyler said.
